The Zangdok Palri Lotus is a non-profit organisation set up in Belgium in October 2000 to assist the impoverished and disinherited inhabitants of the Dzogchen region of Tibet (situated in the Chinese province of Sichuan, formerly the Tibetan province of Kham). The population is mainly nomadic, scattered over an area of 10,000km², and living in conditions of great poverty, deprived of education and healthcare.
The purpose of the Zangdok Palri Lotus is to allow the people of Dzogchen to improve their living conditions by developing skills which allow them to plan and implement programmes for the development of their own region.
To achieve this goal, the Zangdok Palri Lotus will offer assistance and guidance, material and financial support to local initiatives, which will be taken by the Tibetans themselves in the areas of education, medicine, medical research and socio-economic development.
